RAM Advice for Asus Sabertooth 990FX AM3+ As stated above, I have an Asus Sabertooth 990FX AM3+ motherboard. My build is red-themed and therefore I like red-colored ram. I have been a fan of Gskill ram. Now, when it comes to Ram does quanitity trump quality/speed? Is 2000hrz better tham 1066hrz? I currently have gskill 1333. For this motherboard: Newegg.ca - ASUS Sabertooth 990FX AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS what is the best Ram you'd recommend? I want 8GB minimum. Money is not a problem, so what would be the best memory that'd be worth the $$$. How would it benefit gaming/Eyefinity? |
Anything above 1333 will be pointless unless you want to overclock. Personally, I would recommend an 8GB 1333 kit with tight timings. Something like this would be great while still offering some overclocking headroom: Newegg.com - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL7D-8GBRH But you may want to go up to a 1600Mhz SKU just to protect yourself for Bulldozer: Newegg.com - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL |
Without accessing the Bios, is there a way I can check what my Ram is ? (1066, 1333 ect) So what your saying, faster RAM only benefits overclocking? By overclocking I assume you mean the RAM? Thanks Sky |

So as you increase your fsb so will the ram clocks increase, since they are based off that fsb. Having higher clocking ram will allow a wider range of possible combinations with regards to your overclock. Ram speeds are not what they used to be performance wise. |
Okay, thanks a lot guys! |
