Some people were able to get the full 12GB back by simply switching around their RAM and there were a few other methods. QVL lists aren't always entirely accurate. I was able to find the thread.. check it out: RAM Issues on X58 Boards - [H]ard|Forum
yah, I've tried it many times. I have downloaded the memory QVL from asus (you can get it here.) It says that the ram I had was only supported up to 4 sticks.

I shouldnt need more than 12 GB of ram until I upgrade my whole system again, so I went ahead and replaced my 8/12GB of ocz ram with a set of Patriot sector 7 3x4GB kit. It works great, and was very cheap! only about $150, $30 more expensive than the original price I paid for my first 2x3GB kit. I'm pretty happy now, so I'm not gonna worry about this anymore. Thanks for the help everyone!
