Is it worth it?

So the only difference at stock speeds are latencies?

Correct. I don't think it's worth the extra $$ personally. I think you will be more than happy with the HP2-6400

That's what we are here.

Good luck with your build.

Not a build. It is an upgrade

I have 2gb corsair value select right now (667mhz).

But I need more performance, as this ram is just not cutting it.

How far can I overclock the HP2-6400?

Is 1000mhz possible?

I don't think the HP2-6400 will do a 1000MHz but it should do 900MHz.

You may want to look into getting Crucial Ballistix Tracers PC-64000 that are on sale @ NCIX for $82.99 till tomorrow.. They should be able to do 1000 since they use the Micron D9's chips which are great for overclocking.

NCIX.com - Buy Crucial Ballistix Tracer PC2-6400 2GB 2X1GB DDR2-800 CL4-4-4-12 240PIN Dual Channel Kit W/ LEDs - BL2KIT12864AL804 In Canada.

My HP2 sticks are clocked at 1000MHz. Far from their max, but Memtest86+ is stable, no errors. They have been running like such for 5 months now, 24/7.

But as Balistx wrote, if the Tracers are on sale, go for them.

The HP are hit and miss because various chips are used. Some are D9 some are other. The XP series are all D9.
