windows 7 is a great Operating system and does run good on 2 gb ram but if your Operating system is running good then there is no real point in changing it, if you are just liking the looks of windows 7 there are things that you can do to make it look like windows 7

2GB should be enough for you in Windows 7. Your real bottleneck is the video card, not the RAM, so I don't think you'll be limited by the RAM unless you upgrade your GPU first.

xp tweaked properly can be featherweight vs the monster of vista, and even winders seven.
for 2 gigs stay with xp.

You're not really going to gain anything by going to Windows 7 in my opinion, at least not with that caliber of machine. I'd just wait. Windows XP is a good solid OS.

what is it that you like about windows 7? like I mentioned you can get the same looks as windows 7 on a XP OS , myself I wouldn't switch to win7 with only 2gb ram on a gaming pc just because windows 7 has allot of running process's in the back ground, on an xp box you can cut down to around 17 process's and everything will run good but windows seven you would be very lucky to get down to 30 running process's and still have full function ability.

I did some benchmarks with my computer with 1.5GB of ram, i found that on BF2 and a few other games windows 7 cut back about 5-15 FPS vs XP. I also have a 8400GS.
But i also have a single core CPU so that's probably the issue not the RAM usage. If you get around 40FPS in the games you play feel free to upgrade.
