Default Are ram kits special?

Everywhere I look stores are selling "RAM kits". Is this ram special in some way or is it just marketing?

It's marketing. Multiple sticks in the same package.

I agree with Sugar. Be wary of spending a large amt for a kit. Especially with the new high performance stuff, unless you like going overboard with only small performance gains. The upper mid range of new ram, 1600 Mhz is pretty good and priced somewhat more down to earth than say 2133,...?. If you're using i7, then triple channel is nice, but can get pricy. Look for lifetime warranty.

this of course depends on how much ram your getting. if your maxing out the slots i always like to get matched sets so it has the highest degree of compatiability. Also there must be a reaons they sell server ram in kits too eh :). but no yeah most "kits" are a waste of money get something from ocz, corsair or g.skill and be done :)

They also sell kits to ensure that the sticks being sold to you were from the same batch, reducing any problems that may arise.
