DDr3 worth the extra money for motherboard/ram

building my first pc, its strictly for gaming and will be as low budget, want to run games as well as my OS at 720p 32 bit(no better at least for the foreseen future)though settings on high.
the only thing im certain of on this build is that i'm going AMD probably with a phenom II 955 or 965

Now i've noticed that motherboard's that take DDr2 ram are considerably cheaper and the ram is a bit cheaper as well. I'm wondering if its worth it to pony up the extra buck's for a DDr3 format for what i need? keep in mind that i'm looking to save as much as possible and will only be running games like crisis at 1366 by 768

what do you guys think, is ddr3 worth the extra 50 on MB ?

No. Get DDR2, unless you're planning on upgrading 'soon' in which case DDR3 will probably be the standard on all motherboards, and you could just reuse the ram.

Ive gone down this path, i settled on a 780i mobo, ddr2 ram, and a E8400, very stout setup. I recently set up another gamer, with a 790i and ddr3 with a E8400, both cost around the same due to the 790i seller giving me a killer deal. So id recommend sticking to ddr2 to keep it really cheap, there are alot of amazing deals out there. Both my pc's run very very well.

just seems to me that ddr2 ram isn't that cheap, not much cheaper then ddr3. 65 bucks certainly buys you a better motherboard though if you go ddr2. tough call but i'm really suprised ddr2 ram isn't cheaper

crap is so expensive specially as a candian. need to build a good 720p gamer for around 600 but prefer to have some components to reuse in the future when i upgrade .

I dont think theres that much of a difference in price between DDR2 and DDR3 right now. Not worth going DDR2 in my opinion, its only going to get more expensive should you need more and your computer is out of date before you even build it.

And I think you could probably find 4 GB of DDR3 for under $70 to go with it.

Definately, DDR2 is not worth it anymore. They are pretty much the exact same price. Go with ddr3 motherboard. Faster ram for same price awwww ya.

unless you get a pc2-9600 set real cheap go ddr3
i ran my ddr2 1200mhz + for 2 years and ddr3 is 5% faster

DDR2 is pretty good.. i have it myself.. works great... i have an outdated GPU and i can play grid and run screen recording things like no other on my dual core.. :-P i would go for the cheaper one

DDR3, where DDR2 prices climb, DDR3 prices will not at the current moment.
As well as newer boards, and the prices aren't that bad , especially if you go on the AMD side !
