PC8500 RAM

Quick question for you guys, gonna RMA my 2GB set of Crucial Ballistix Tracers PC2-8500. I've been wondering if I should wait for the RMA, or buy some G-Skills/Mushkins..

These crucials need a little bit more voltage to work, which I suspect is what caused the RAM to go bad.. Lpan4ever has some nice Mushkins PC2-8000, little slower than mine, but could be overclocked..

Just needed some advice if I should stick with my Micron D9 chip sticks, or get something else. Thanks..

I did an RMA a few months ago and the new ones that came in are of lower voltage so check out what you are getting before installing. You can get a new set of different brand if you want but you will still get a new set from Crucial.

D9 is too generic a term - there were only a few sub-models of the D9 series that were "golden". But I don't think I've ever heard of a set of Mushkin Redlines not being able to do 1066, and most seem to be able to break 1100 without too much of a voltage increase. I had mine up to 1117 at CAS5 @ 1.9V, for what that's worth.

i got a 4 sets of d9 that do 1200 with 2.02v
2 sets been doin 1200+ for over a year and like new
all my d9 slap my redline silly and my redline do 1140mhz
its the board that kills the d9;) all my dfi boards run d9 1200+ withought killin then
the worst are the gigabut p35 series
any board with cheap ass dmm voltage regulators gonna kill d9
the d9 that requires 2.1v+ to do 1066 are the ones that eventually die

the newer revision of d9 kinda suks but you might get lucky miggs
but before you send them in stick them in freezer for an hour wrapped in plastik they just might be like new again;)

Thanks, I'll keep in that in consideration, I've been a fan of Mushkins, owned a DDR1 set too..

Ok let's believe D9 is ewww.. any other suggestions, Mushkins like I asked, G-skills, OCZs..

@zsamz.. I wouldn't mind trying, unfortunately I've had to put a lot more voltage in to get these sets to overclock, I don't entirely agree with enaberif, but sort of do on the eww too..

just stick them in freezer miggs alot of dyin d9 is a pcb problem and solder on the balls of the chip itself
