Talking Corsair XMS2 DHX vs. OCZ Reaper

Hey Guys,

I have been thinking about which of these two types of RAM is better for overclocking and gaming.

Corsair XMS2 DHX 2x2GB TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX (4-4-4-12)
or
OCZ Reaper 2x2GB OCZ2RPR800C44GK (4-4-4-15)

I know that the Corsair memory has better timings and I also heard that the Corsair memory runs at 1.9v versus the OCZ memory running at 2.1v. Is this true? Can you guys confirm this info? What RAM do you guys think?

Thanks Guys.

You'll see neglible difference in using faster memory for gaming.

Not worth it.

Well talking form experience here - This is the RAM I am using on 2 systems The 4GB kit (2x2GB) DHX with the large silver heatsinks. Actually those are rated and tested to run at 2.1V @ 4-4-4-12 800Mhz the nominal voltage is for conservative timings / default - I have never tried to run those at 1.9V, I use 2.1v since they are rated at that and to run stable at those timings. Running this on an ASUS M2N-SLI DELUXE I would choose the corsairs one over the OCZ anytime.

Thanks guys for your input. Basically, the corsair has better timings but the ocz reapers seem to have a unique heatsink. Does that heatsink make a difference in temperature compared to the corsair's heatsink? Which will overclock better?

Thanks for everything guys!

Well to be honest - I've always used RAM without heatsinks on them, always, and never had ANY issue - if you have proper airflow in your case for most people it should not be an issue. Heatsink or not you STILL need proper airflow, regardless - it's no use having heatsinks if the area is cluttered and no air circulates to cool them off.... Prior to getting those I had the regular XMS2 2GB kit DDR-2 667 4-4-4-12 and I had no problems at all OCing it to DDR-2 800 4-4-4-12 @ 2.1v rock solid - I haven't done any OCing on the DHX though, not worth it - get a good GPU and a CPU that can keep up with it, it will have the biggest impact on your games than memory timings.

Hey Guys,

I decided that when the time is right, I'm going to most probably go with 2x OCZ Titanium XTC (2x2GB). Along with that, I'll probably get a OCZ XTC Cooler! What I love about OCZ RAM is that they come with an EVP (Extended Voltage Program). This memory runs at 2.2v and has an EVP of 2.5v! I've read a lot on the web and it says it is a steal and a very good overclocker! What do you guys think?

Thanks Again.

Don't know much about the OCZ Titanium XTC. But I could certainly recommend the Corsair XMS2 DHX. Built 5 systems recently with this ram & its little brother (non-DHX/ same timings). Never had a problem with Asus boards. Great overclocker. Highly recommended.
