There's nothing wrong with 8GB of RAM. The more, the merrier. These days RAM is so cheap, why wouldn't you max out the RAM just for the heck of it (supposing you have a 64-bit OS)?

I actually disagree. Many parts are cheap, but buying something you don't need is quite wasteful

I agree Jack, I've got a whopping 2gigs and works fine for me. If gaming is your concern put the cost of the RAM in to a video card savings, much more noticeable boost in performance. I'm an anti-consumerism. There is a enough excessive crap being produced as it is.

You never know when you will need that 50$ spent on RAM.

COUGH SSD COUGH

There's no such thing as too much RAM with Vista (or 7).

Okay, there probably is, but 8 GB is far from it.

It's very easy to use more than 4 GB if you have more...

Uh no.

The only reason either of those OS's may use a lot of memory is called Superfetch.

Otherwise most people still do not need more than 4

I agree with jack, anything more then 4gbs for something that ISNT purpose built is overkill, its not going to do much of anything for you other then make it harder to overclock...

You have to understand that ram isnt going to do anything for your system other then allow your programs to load a touch faster, but that kind of levels out after a while and you see almost no different going from 4gb to 8. If you have money to waste then go for it, otherwise its a waste.

I look at it that way as well. People ask me why I went with 12GB of RAM. I reply that 24GB of RDIMMs was too expensive for me.

2GB is fine for almost everyone. The only guys that need more are actually using their PC for more than gaming and online chatting.

I find myself running out of RAM

Or maybe it's just a memory leak
