Default Help with RAM for new board 730i

Just got a evga 730i board and needed help with deciding which RAM to get.

On the specs, it says I can run up to 800mhz RAM.

NVIDIA nForce 730i / GeForce 9300 Chipset Review Specifications :: TweakTown

So should I get pc6400 RAM or the pc8500 RAM. Can I even run the pc8500 RAM on this board?

Thanks!

Hmmmm I think you could use the PC8500 but in order to get its Rated speed you would be looking at OC'ing it a bit.
If you're going that route, I know Canada Computers as the PC-8000 1000MHZ Redlines for a fair price.

Or, You could stick with the plain 6400 and grab some G.Skill/Corsair and that would get you going for sure.

Thanks for the help Soul! So you prefer G.Skill and Corsair? I was looking at getting some OCZ Reaper, any thoughts?

So it would be ok if I got the pc8500, it would still work on this MB just not at 1066mhz? It's not a big deal if it doesn't run at 1066mhz. Since the 6400 and 8500 are almost the same price, I would buy the 8500 incase I get a new MB in the near future

IIRC it will work, but at different timings/speeds i.e 1066mhz running at 800.

The Reaper...hmmm I've had issues with some OCZ rams in the Past.
You are more than welcome to try them, but I tend to stay with ones I know will work in just about anything.
I have yet to come across a board that doesn't recognize Corsair.
G.Skill is mentioned because they have great price/performance ratio , and as far as I've been told they are really good sticks.

That is correct! If you use the 8500 RAM it will work... it just runs at 6400 speeds. Your train of thought is correct too... you'll have some headroom for OC'ing and/or a faster set for future upgrades!
