Default PC6400 - upgrade?

So my motherboard, MSI 750i P7N calls for PC6400 ram, which is what I'm using and it is fine. However, in the Performance Score deally in the "Games" window of Win7, my ram only rates 5.5 which is the lowest spec on my system. What is the best way to improve the performance of my ram? Do I buy better ram, and would it work if I did? Do I OC the existing ram? Or is it time for a new mobo if I want better performance? The ram I am using is corsair xms pc6400 - 4X1 GB.

Relying on what that score says is silly.

With that said depending on the ram try overclocking it and see how well it does.

You would see almost no increase in real world performance even if you overclocked it past PC-8500 specs. Synthetic benchmarks will improve, that's about it.

Sounds like it wouldn't be much use. Perhaps a fellow should just be happy that everything is working! by the way b1lk1 - I wanted to give you a positive rating in the for sale forum for that nice 4870 - but didn't see where you click to give the rating?

OK - might be worth a shot. I already have that in another machine, and could trade them up pretty easily.

Well here's a prime example:

I had 4x1GB DDR2-800 in my PC, running 4-4-4-12-2T @ 850MHz. That scored me a 5.9.

I upgraded to 2x2GB DDR2-1000, running 5-5-5-18-2T @ 1066MHz. Now my score is 7.4.

Do I see any improvement daily? No, not really. But I had money to spend and Jackquelegs was selling a kit of Mushkin Redline Ascents for cheap
