My System Specs

Default Upgrade for iMac

No, I haven't gone to the dark side, this is for my sister. I don't trust Apple for various reasons... Such as looking up my sister's model (G5) on their site to see what slot type she has. DIMM, they say. "Golly, how swell! I have some spare RAM around here," I say. So I open up the RAM slot and- what. They are so tiny what is this I don't even... ! Turns out they're SO-DIMM, because she has an older revision of the G5 which I can tell by looking in the support database but not the main G5 page since Apple can't be arsed to put a little footnote that they sporadically switched slot types through the years. Great.

So now I guess I'll just have to pick some up from NCIX to save her from her 512mb woes, coz that's the kind o' gal I am, and I have my eyes on a kit of Crucial Renditions. Anyone have experience with Macs and can tell me if it'll work well? It's non-ECC and unbuffered so it should but Macs are notoriously picky. I'd like to know if I can dodge the bullet on buying overpriced Apple Certified~ (insert sparkles).

Thanks, folks.

They should work. Generally you'll want low density modules. However most manufacturers don't mention it or not.

What model of G5 iMac is it (processor speed).

If I remember right, some of them actually took PC2-4200, and Macs on occasion have a fit when it comes to downclocking the memory.
