Yes maybe so if something is discontinued but in general it has always been Redline>XP>HP>EM for Mushkin's product lines whether it be DDR1, DDR2, or DDR3. I guess it depends on how you define "better", Im talking about oc.

Doesnt matter either way, going back to the OP, Redline is the best of those 3. Has the 996587 been changed from Micron? The kit I have is micron and it kicks ass.

The HP2-6400 DDR2 - Mushkin Enhanced was never micron, that part is discontinued as well.
But they scale extremely well regardless using lower voltages cas 5.

Ascent would be best. Followed by 996599 xp2's 2x2GB , redlines 2x2GB 996593 , 996580 xp2 2x2GB then hp2 996587

But they'll all scale similar when it comes to overclocking, max speeds would be the difference.

This is for Greg, hey I'm not sure, but I thought reading one of your posts somewhere, you said the Ascents don't need active cooling, and they can be taken to the max. Sorry it sounds foolish when I say it, but is that true ?

@darkside: You can't even compare Kingston to Mushkin, there is no comparsion needed, Mushkin would be the clear winner, as encorp said, you'll fall in love.

You are correct, I had the part # wrong. 996587 is not Micron, but 996564 is Micron D9GSV and is also 4GB HP2-6400. Been running that kit for almost a year and a half now.

Yours are from the original 2x2 GB DDR2 Mushkin kits...way old now, but awesome for their time :)

Mushkin is using Powerchips for basically all their higher end kits now ;)

It's even better [than D9GSV IMO], & doesn't need high voltage to reach decent speeds either.

It also doesn't really scale with voltage though, so unlike Micron, more voltage than 2.0 -2.1v doesn't really gain you much if anything.

It's weak w/ CAS 4...you usually won't get much more than DDR2-850, but as mentioned, with CAS 5 PSC does very well :)
