Even a hwc member with reputation, can take your money and disappear. (Happened to me once)

So anything can happen, and worse for places without regulations like kijiji and craigslist.

Yes, this can happen, and all members should be careful and wary when dealing with any forum member when large transactions are involved.

However, I think everyone on this board would agree that John is probably the most trustworty, up front guy on here, and in this instance, he likely won't take advantage of the trust placed in him.

But, once again, this is the internet, and you've never met him face to face. Buyer be-aware. (beware just sounds so ominous)

EMT provides you very little protection unless you can convince the police that it's worth their time and money to serve the bank with a court order and I doubt they'd do that for a sub-$1000 purchase.

I'd pass.
Haven't used EMT before, most of the deals here are done thru EMT, why is that?
I'm been using PP for a few years now(paintball related ... other websites) ...

EMT is a guaranteed payment. Once it's accepted there's no way to reverse it, unlike Paypal. So a lot of sellers prefer to use it, rather than risk a fraudulent buyer starting a claim after they receive the goods. Paypal also charges sellers a fee for the sale and another if you want to transfer money out of your Paypal account, where EMT fees are paid by the sender (my bank charges $1.50).

EMT is pretty much the same as cash. AFAIK once the transfer is done the only purpose to the transaction record is for a fraud investigation, it can't be reversed like a CC or paypal payment. That said... the majority of private PP sales I see these days request payment "as gift" which I believe can't be reversed (or disputed) either.

Thanks for the explanation on why folks here prefer EMT.
Time to set up an EMT I guess.

I texted him and he replied back, I suggested EMT payment if he ships to Ontario for extra cost to be covered by me, he agreed. I then asked for some Online rep, he said his Ebay is curedba

reason for selling: medical, ~$1000 will cover his expense.

eBay Feedback Profile for curedba

A google search also suggests this post:

New to this, 3 way sli titans build and tempatures

Iv never done an EMT this big over kijiji, any fail safes on my end in case crap hits the fan?

Everything seems to check out form my end. Looking for a second pair of eyes
Given the costs, I wouldn't do it. For piece of mind I would just save the extra little bit of coin and buy new.
Too much risk,
