Default Sappire 4870x2

Is there a market for this old card? I know AMD stop developing drivers for it and I suspect it won't work in Win8.

If it works in Vista/7 I'm sure it will work in 8 as well. I just traded for a GTX 295. The 295 is roughly in the same camp as the X2 performance wise. Supports DX 10 and is limited to a 1GB buffer.

I did see another GTX for sale here for $95.00. So I suppose in the ~100 dollar range depending on if you have the original box and accessories might fetch a little more. These cards are still formidable in DX 9/10. I think if someone wants to put together a cheap gaming rig there is interest.

My reason for trading is I wanted to explore Physx without investing much in another card. Others will want or not an X2 for their own reasons. But I think there is a healthy market for good used parts. Even older stuff. There is a certain fun factor with buying stuff just to mess around with the hardware imo.

Well I got it from my friend who was having issues. I haven't tested it yet but it doesn't have any accessories. I guess I could try bundling with my spare E8400 with board but no RAM.

My single 4870 works fine in Win7.

Maybe this will give you hope for Win8.

I believe the drivers shipped with Win8 were supposed to support the 4000 series. There is just no further development support from ATI.

It never hurts to try moocow. As they say, you never know until you try. I would try to get to the bottom of any issue(s) that card may have. It may have just been an incompatibility with your friends board/driver config that got the best of him/her (hopefully). In that case you should have a good saleable item in your hands.

Did your friend tell you what issues it was with the board?

That's good news NyteOwl. Plenty of peeps still game on 4xxx series cards.
