Default PC on 2nd Generation iMac 17"

Hey!

I'm trying to help someone sell a 2nd Gen iMac 17" G5 (whereas I may even be the purchaser).

I'm not a Mac guy myself so I'm hoping someone else can give me a better idea of what this is worth as I don't want to rip off the seller nor do I want to get ripped off myself. LoL.

If you need any details, let me know!

Thanks!

remove the 3 bolts on the bottom of said imac the back plate will come off, do this with the front lcd placed on a flat surface. now look at the marvel of popped caps :P jk well not really, the G5 is a giveaway item it is junk, this coming from a apple tech who all and all apple builds great stuff, The G5 is the Lemon on our tree of perfect apples. dont buy it $50 max. I give them away when they get donated and still feel like I'm ripping people off.

Throw out all the electronics (use a recycler) and sell the case as scrap metal. No modern software support the PPC platform. Unless you can find a modder willing to take the case for their Hackintosh project, it's worthless.

If you really want a G5 you would be better going with a PowerMac but even the quad core PowerMac G5 gets it ass handed to it by modern low end x86 hardware and the G5 is just bad at general every day tasks. You have to have very specific PPC software with no x86 variant for a G5 to be worth actually using.

On the other hand if you want one just for the sake of having one then sure; pickup something, replace the caps, and be content.
If it makes you happy then a G5 is for you. For everyone else, Do Not Want.
