Default AMD is exploring options

It looks like they are leaving no stone unturned in keeping options open if they have to do some restructuring.

[H]ard|OCP - www.hardocp.com=

They are fighting a goliath who is still making a profit even with the price war. Intel has way more money, fabs and R&D labs ... and market share.

It will be interesting to see how things will go in the next year or so. Hopefully they can remain competitive and keep Intel from hijacking cpu prices if(when?) AMD has to back down.

OMG...... what a pile of CEOese!!!

Maybe if they hadn't dropped S939 production they'd still be selling tons of dual cores to customers. I wonder how many long time AMD fans switched to Intel for that reason alone? (but I'm not bitter...... :) ).

Honestly, switching to Intel for most people is not a sensible option. A simple, but hard to find admittedly, upgrade to your PC to a X2 S939 and you would still game and do most things just as well as a C2D. Believe me, C2D's do not game any better. Good luck with your upgrade.

But its not all about gaming now is it?

how does the AMD fair against Intel in Folding, Video rendering, raw processing power?

Heh.... more info to follow shortly..... :)

But yes, for me, gaming is not the end all of computer uses. Dual Core is now the mainstream, and not only are new games optimized for Dualies, their clock speeds are now such that even running in single core apps they trump all but the highest clocked single core chips.

AM2 isn't an option unless I knew that it still has some life in it, and I'm not interested in the dual core dregs left over for S939.
