Default Microsoft Hammers Another Nail in the Win 7/8 Coffin

https://www.howtogeek.com/fyi/micros...orums-anymore/

as of July 2018, they will no longer address or care for anything Windows 7 or 8 related on their official support forums.

that said, I never even knew they had an official support forum, LoL!

They do, but every response I've seen from an official Microsoft source/CSR has been the absolute worst off/wrong-topic cut/paste answer possible.

The only exception to that rule has been direct responses from the coding team during "insider" bug troubleshooting discussions.

^^^Exactly this...

The article praises the support forum but I agree with sswilson and am to the point now (almost) that when I am searching for something I skip those results when they come up in Google.

Their "support" forum has been a joke for years. Honestly they are only good for the occasional response from others that end up helping, them though? Terrible responses that beg the question if they even read the initial question.

Exactly! I've seen this so many times. Pretty much like they are reading from a script and giving responses like "is the computer connected to power?" and "have you used the mouse to click the button?" even though the OP clearly indicated all the steps they had already tried!

More to the main point of the article, dropping Win 7 doesn't surprise me, Win 8 does a little but I suppose most people have upgraded from 8 to 10 by now?

Yeah....

Question- How do I carry out "XXX removed feature" under the new interface?

Answer- Did you try power cycling the PC?

In fairness to them... the questions that are asked on the official forum are usually ones that don't have an answer because it's either majorly bugged, or the feature just doesn't exist any more. :)

I generally dislike dealing with mfr support as they're all scripted. I almost had an apoplexy once with Telus support out of Malaysia. total ESL issue...but daaaamn!
