Default SSD middleware breakthrough gives up to 300% speed boost

Interesting timing. Something tells me this isn't a "new" breakthrough.

Should become irrelevant as drives start to transition from AHCI to NVMe.

Yes, but the cool thing is that can be applied to the existing SSDs as well.

Any word on when motherboards will start to support that function?

Thats because it isnt a breakthrough. This is just a new take on one of the many ways of how most modern SSD controllers 'buffer' before writing.

And I agree lowfat....NVMe is the future. Its going to mate Sata Express and M.2...and even classic PCIe ssd designs obsolete. Personally...If I had stock in Seagate or WD...Id sell. The enterprise market is in for a shakeup....as an 800lb Gorilla has gotten a hate on for SAS and is about to pick a fight.

Enterprise only? Should I be worried that my new system yet to be purchased will quickly become a dinosaur?

How will these drives perform relative to something like the Revo Drive 3 on PCIe? Should I bother buying a Crucial M550?

Considering that we aren't seeing this on the newest gen of motherboard, It's probably at least a yr or 3 off being mainstream and even then thats only if there isn't a huge premium for the technology
(though I have to say I know almost nout about it, not been keeping up again)

AkG, Could you summarize or link a decent article thats not to heavy on the tech ins and outs?

M.2 is a gorram mess between the different pinouts (keys) and sizing compatibilities. Bring on NVMe.
