Hopefully it can be implemented this way eventually, vendor specific tech with lots of extra hardware and cost is never ideal... But I'm sure Nvidia has that FPGA for a reason, from the looks of it this may not allow frame synchronization, just "on the fly" refresh rate switching? It's not very clear yet.

It will be a wait and see of course... Always seems to be with AMD.

Well they specifically said they have no plans to sell it yet at the moment, so yeah, I wouldn't get my hopes up at all

sell what ?? most hardware all ready supports it and it's a driver update.. or did I miss something??

AMD doesn’t want to charge for this technology since it’s already a part of a spec that it has implemented (and shouldn’t require a hardware change to those panels that support the spec), hence the current working name “FreeSync”.

I think he more means the fact that it is still not officially "released" by AMD and they haven't said when they plan to make it "official."

Sorry, I meant release rather than sell. From the article:

AMD isn’t ready to productize this nor does it have a public go to market strategy
There's a possibility in the future, but not for now I suppose. Gsync just seems so overkill and wasteful to do such a simple task.

Yeah...no.

Sorry, after other "me too!" flubs by AMD (OpenCL physics, HD3D, etc.) I am taking a serious wait and see approach to this one.

That might sound bias and it is, simply because we have been here before and AMD has proven again and again they don't properly support technologies being released to simply take PR steam out of NVIDIA's sails. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

If it works and they continue to support it, great. But forgive me for not being excited.
