AMDs Radeon 4800 in production
Unlike the ATI that we knew before, it appears that AMDs graphics division is running perfectly these days and ahead of deadlines. Even though the graphics unit has posted an $8 million loss in the first quarter of this year in an effort to improve market share rather than average selling prices - the graphics business is making progress: We hear the company has struck gold with the RV770 and will be bring the chip to market earlier than expected. http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/37025/135/

awesome, i was hoping to get a Hd 3850x2 or x3, or mabye just a plain HD 3870x2 but ATi keeps getting better.

What I don't get is why doesn't ATi use GDDR4 memory for the cut up version of the cards, looks like they lost their excess GDDR4 memory when they didn't put it on their HD 36xx series.

Good. Nice to hear there will be some good healthy competition in this market again.

GDDR5 is suppose to be a lot better then GDDR4 and GDDR4 doesn't offer that much of an improvement over GDDR3.

Much like DDR3 not offering much improvement over DDR2, unless of course we start to see tighter timings on DDR3 then the gains might be more noticeable.

Copied from TG Daily

Next month will be more important for AMD’s graphics division than any other month of this year: The company is set to release the (RV770) 4800-series of graphics cards, including the models 4850, 4870 and 4870 X2. While the launch is still very much a secret, TG Daily was able to receive details and the specifications of the new cards – which will put ATI back into the ring with Nvidia.
