Microsoft Surface RT Tablet Prices Announced: Starts at $499

So, after researching a bit more, Microsoft has killed this tablet for me.

Why? No GPS on either version.

Seriously!? My girlfriend's $219 Nexus 7 has that!

That's what I thought too when I held out for a win7 tablet. In all honesty it wasnt' worth the wait, and having the ability to run all of my win7 programs isn't worth the extra cash as full productivity isn't what I really need with a tablet. I wish I'd gone with a straight android tablet (even though Google's privacy policy is evil).

So where Microsoft is going ? peoples dislike Windows 8 as a desktop OS, their tablets may not sell well, they sell the OS a lower price.

They're going to attempt to use their market share to shove crap down the public's throats. It remains to be seen if they can carry it out.

It has Bing Maps pre-loaded which requires GPS to find your location and a ton of social media apps rely upon location information as well. I really can't see them excluding such a fundamental chip...

There is conflicting info about it but a straight-up GPS it does NOT have. It has location services over a WiFi network. Of that I am sure.

My phone has it so I'm not too worried about it... To tell you the truth I am much more interested in the surface pro.

Still seems awfully strange. I noticed some people asked on Reddit during the AMA with the Surface team, but none of them replied to it. They did say that they couldn't include NFC due to that VaporNg coating and alloy that the body is made of. Maybe GPS poses the same issue.
