Actually, I believe the patent is for the software interface rather than the controller itself.

If the application is for the actual controller, then by God it should be thrown out IMMEDIATELY since it is a direct rip-off of Sony's controller.

That's what I was thinking, it looks IDENTICAL to Sony's Controller, which I can only hope is patented and will allow Sony to smack the living hell out of Apple.

I just went through the whole patent PDF, and it looks like Apple wants to be able to control every single electronic device in your home through the iPhone/iPod.
So... pull out your phone and use it to turn the lights on, set the room temperature, and turn on the lawn sprinkler system while you're at it. Each of those actions are currently possible through an endless number of remotes and Apple seems to be in the game of consolidating them all into 1 device.

So in other words, Apple is about to infringe on about 1,000+ patents that Logitech currently holds under their Harmony portfolio.

Now THIS should be interesting....

But can the Harmony make a phone call?

I only hope all this negative publicity enlightens the Sheeple (or would it be Shapples) who currently worship Apple and iCulture to the true nature of their beloved idol. Fanaticism and the inability to recognize viable alternatives literally enrages me.

That doesn't really matter since an iPad and iPod can't either. It is the software through which Harmony facilitates inter-device communication which has been thoroughly patented and as past cases indicate Logitech, is more than willing to vigorously defend those patents.

I hope Logitech burns Apple in the courts... can't stand these patent trolls anymore.
