Default ASUS: Building the Nexus 7 was “Torture”

By all accounts ASUS is an experienced OEM used to a demanding production schedule. In a recent interview, however, the company’s chairman admitted that working with Google on the Nexus 7 tablet proved to be, at times, beyond taxing.

I'm surprised that they didn't ask Samsung or do it themselves via Motorola.

In other words, be prepared for delays.

If ASUS' past tablets were any indication, they won't be able to keep up with the demand of this one.

Probably asked asus because they have good customer service and their transformer tablets are very good.

I like this, they are pushing their limits and stepping up their game. Their engineering department is becoming more embedded, and running a stricter schedule. Hopefully their production chain becomes more integrated and tight as well. If they do this, they will truly make Apple do a double-take. Maybe one day google with do their own WWDC with ASUS top execs on stage.

It's kinda like the iPod nano, the engineers went to hell and back to bring a new level of thinness for a mp3 player, and the fact that their production chain is so streamlined made it all possible.
