Sucks for all those waiting for ivy bridge. Glad I'm not one of them.

I was planning on picking one up eventually, but I'm in no particular hurry.

Yep and after you wait for months to buy IB, IB-E comes out.

Is there a difference? Would it even matter? Let's say Ivy Bridge is delayed, wouldn't it make sense to delay Ivy Bridge-E as well?

Assuming the rumours are true and Ivy Bridge is delayed, well it makes sense. Intel has little to no competition whatsoever right now. If they have tons of Sandy Bridge processors remaining, maybe they want to get rid of as much Sandy Bridge CPUs as possible.

Uh yeah there is a difference, different socket, and the E is the enthusiast platform. IB is the tick (die shrink) and IB-E is the tock.

The real question is: Why the forced delay? Its not yields, theyve been showing working Ivybridge parts for, what, a year now?

This just smells of profit margins and insider bs. With no competition from AMD, why not milk your last gen parts for as long as possible at maximum dollar? I'm starting to get frustrated with Intels business practices if my thoughts are accurate.

This is incorrect from my understanding. IVB should just require a bios flash for any Sandy Bridge based platform (1155 and 2011). Intel is also releasing the 7 series chipset tho, with naitive USB3 support and PCIE3, etc
