Default ASUS Launches the Radeon HD 7970 DirectCU II TOP Graphics Card

Ushering the finest and most capable graphics card based on new AMD “Tahiti” 28nm GPUs, the ASUS HD 7970 DirectCU II TOP uses a factory-overclocked core and 3 GB of GDDR5. It is cooled by the exclusive DirectCU II, a dual fan thermal design with six copper heatpipes and a large dissipation area that leads to the lowest temperatures and quietest operation of any HD 7970 card.

Sometimes I Think ASUS goes a little too far with these 3 slot cards...

I concur. If decent cooling and noise were not obtainable with 2 slots, then I could understand the need for a 3 slot solution, but other manufacturers have done very well with two.

What's wrong with it? If they can, why not?

Space constraints SKY. Depending on your board this might not be fit, and using two could get a little frustrating in the best of times.

Just because you can do something, doesn't always mean you should.

I bought 2 they come in late next week through distribution, I had to call in a lot of favors to return my unopened 7970's and switch them out for the CUII Tops cards.

Now I still need that damn X79 mobo hahaha

I really loved my 6970 CUII like it even more water-cooled still need a second one for my wifes system but the new 7970 CUII 5 Tops is amazing with the huge bracket to stop it from bending like the 6970 CUII does. I will have to mod the bracket to water cool it and keep it from flexing but thats the fun of the game :)

I can't think of a single P67, Z68 or X79 board that would have an issue with spacing and this card.
