Default Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis resign as CEOs of RIM [Star]

Looks like RIM has a new leader:
RIM
Quote:
Research In Motionís Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie have resigned as co-CEOs and co-chairmen, handing the top job to an insider with four years at the struggling BlackBerry maker.
Thorsten Heins, a former Siemens executive who has risen steadily through RIMís upper management ranks since joining the Canadian company four years ago, took over as CEO on Saturday, RIM said.
Hopefully this will help but maybe an outsider would have been a better choice....

Eh, its a start but not sure if its the right move.

RIM needs to get their QNX or whataver their next OS will be out soon in the Q1 or even Q2. Having their OS released later on the year around Q3, will be suicide. Even then, im not even sure if that's enough to save the company.

RIM keeps coming out with the same rehash of the same phone every year.

And ive used BBM before - but i dont get what the big deal is. Yes, you can see people if they're responding to your BBM's, or read your BBM's and they ignore you. But that it.

I remember seeing shots of the porsche design BB and i was in awe. I really like that design. Now, if they design their future products like that + get their QNX or whatever earlier than Q4 - then they might have a chance.

Editorial: RIM's new CEO isn't the shakeup it needed -- Engadget

And if its true that Mike is becoming a Vice Chair of Innovation Comittee according to that article - well, he's the wrong guy to be appointed that position. Why? He failed to innovate the company for years and he got that job?? Lol

I'm really hoping that RIM can get out from circling the drain, as they were a rather enjoyable company to work for, but they really need to produce some ground breaking technology soon before its too late.
