So, I was on another forum and I Googled a phrase for some additional info for a discussion, naturally clicked on the Wikipedia link without a passing thought and up came the "Imagine a World Without Free Knowledge" page. I have to admit: even though I'm fully aware of the implications of what could happen -- sorry, will happen -- to the internet if we don't fight back (the internet community is international, after all) this little event really hit home for me as I sat there looking at the page, letting what it truly meant sink in.

Yep. Lets hope this sends the wave that we need. Google has a mention of it, and it's trending on twitter. Everything looks good so far. As long as the americans get those emails and phone calls going, this will definintely help.

I wish facebook did what wikipedia did. That would do it.

Yeah if Facebook and / or Google did, it would be quite the fuss. Wikipedia could get away with it since they rely on donations and volunteers, where Facebook and Google have investors to answer to.

Love the corporations and people doing this.. really goes to show how bad it could affect us. I forgot about Wikipedia myself and then was kindly reminded.

Ahahahaha:
Wikipedia blackout prompts Twitter cries of 'help' - The Globe and Mail

Here are a few of the twitter feeds in that article of the poor darlings without Wikipedia:
Quote:
"OH MY GOD why would they black out Wikipedia the day before my essay is due?!?!?!?!?! I need my facts and I need them NOW #disaster"

"Hot lemon flu drink, unfinished essay and wikipedia blackout. Kill me now"

"4000 word essay due on Friday and they decide that now is a good time to blackout Wikipedia. seriously?"

"I have an essay due on the life of Tom Arnold and Wikipedia is down. I can't afford another F!

"How does one write an essay without google and wikipedia?"

"I go to start my essay today and wikipedia is on blackout; guess I'll need to use proper sources then..."
Haha this is all I have been hearing all day! (I do hope that there is some 'tongue in cheek' humour in at least ONE of the quotes above)
