Default AMD 780G Chipset! ZOMG

Check it out... The latest AMD chipset is a killer in Every respect. Lowest power consumption ever tested by Tomshardware. Built in GPU (3200) that can OC, decode Hd-dvd, blu-ray and more AND can join in "Hybrid" Crossfire with an add-in card for additional perforance gains vs the add-in card alone. Read the Link!!!

AMD's New 780G Chipset Has Powerful GPU | Tom's Hardware

I want a dozen... Could possibly be the BEST HTPC solution ever (thus far) in terms of power consumption and has low CPU use during HD playback (Sempron 3200+ can play 1080p without problems). What I really wanna know is how (or if) this chipset/gpu will work in CrossfireX with one or two 3870x2's!!! Can anyone say 5 gpu madness? If AMD takes full advantage of the potentials here they could easily allow the built-in GPU to hande the physics processes for one (or both) 3870x2's... making easily the most powerful graphics solution to date. Well done AMD!!!

Looks like a nice board for a HTPC but I don't think it will do to well for gaming with the onboard video. Hybrid Crossfire only works with 2600, 3650, and 3670 ATI GPUs at the moment and that is hardly powerful enough to run older games at a higher resolution. I don't know if they plan to release this chipset on larger ATX boards with Crossfire support for dual add on cards. It sounds to me that this chipset is aimed more towards HTPCs and low cost workstations.

That being said I'm looking to pick one up for a HTPC build, this chipset with the upcoming triple core CPUs could be the sweet spot for HTPC builds if the CPU can deliver.

Wow, that is impressive! This would definitely kick butt for a home media server. Those on-board graphics results are staggering! So good!

nice. I wonder if they will make a higher end version with a higher on board GPU with Crossfire?

This board is great for anyone who wants to build a HD-HTPC. I think I'm gonna get it for my HD-HTPC build.

It looks like they are also coming out with a slightly better chipset as well. The 780GX will feature better integrated graphics and two PCI-E x8 slots for Crossfire along with the hybrid Crossfire support. It sounds like this will all be offered on a mATX board, maybe the first mATX board that supports dual graphics cards?

AMD 700 chipset series - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (Info on the 780GX)

I will be keeping a close eye on these motherboards for my upcoming HTPC build. I'm thinking it will be hard to beat a 780GX chipset, X2 5000+ BE ( maybe a B3 stepping Phenom when they come out), and 1 or 2 HD 3690s, value wise at least. It might even be able to play some newer games on a 1080p screen. The HD 3690 is suppose to be able do mid 8000's on 3Dmark06, so two in a Crossfire setup plus the hybrid Crossfire should be an alright system.

It would probably be easier (and better performing) to just get a 3865 or a 3870 but I like the ideal of turning off the dedicated cards to save power and reduce heat when they are not needed.

Please AMD release a product worthy enough to justify spending my hard earned cash on. Times are tough for AMD fanboys
