XFX 8800gtx for $349 from Tiger Direct with Lost Planet incl. ($50 rebate), but granted, it is still alot.

I'm in university, but I needed a new computer last fall. So I made a $1400 build, and scrimped on most parts...and ended up with the system in my signature. Must say I never expected to run new games on max everything, ever, but here I am today and Oblivion nor Crysis have anything on me.

If you have the money to dish out for a $2,000 computer and want the best another $600 to me is pennies.

I'm glad to see the physics going in the right direction.......I think aegeia was and still is a bit too ahead of it's time/or missed it's time......

Game physics is something than can be offloaded from the main thread onto any processor.....be it onto it's own cpu core , or onto a separate graphics card , either way I think its software rather than hardware , but we'll see what happens .

---------------

heh...

I paid 719 $ for my BFG 768Mb 8800GTX about a year ago .

Now , I've gone the 'middle of the road' video card route before.I have also gone 'bleeding edge' before. Here's what I can tell you.

In the lifespan of a top end video card , you will typically buy 2 mid cards in the same span. This 8800 gtx is bearing that out again

Meh, no sense in bothering with a new topic, but THIS IS INTERESTING. Regardless of which way the physics war goes, it should definitely go a long ways towards making in-game physics more wide-spread.

Good news for all indeed. Can't wait to see what these things can really do.

Dear Ageia, THIS is how you promote a physics engine.
If I remember correctly PhysX has been downloadable for free for some time now. I was going to download it and try it out at one time.

So maybe AMD won't be left alone in the dark after all. I'm still waiting to see what kind of physics can be done with Fusion.

For end-users, yes. In fact, lots of games use subsets of Physx as well, and just run the procedures off the CPU. But I was always under the impression that Ageia was still charging for the development and licensing aspects. Here, Intel seems to be willing to give up short-term revenue for the cause of getting better market penetration for Havok.

Of course, now Nvidia seems to be of a similar mindset with Physx, going to so far as let it's rival fully support it as well.
