Breaking: HP to Ditch the PC Business

According to a report by Bloomberg, and confirmed by a earnings call earlier in the day, Hewlett Packard is planning on exiting the PC market and scrapping its recently acquired webOS smartphone and tablet business in order to focus on enterprise level software and services.

So promising and now dead. I will return my TouchPad because it is only 2 days old. Thank god they did this now and not a month from now. I do want a small amount of support for a little while.

Well, I don't think too many people are sad about seeing HP get out of the consumer side of the businesss, especially their competition. From my limited experience, I have never seen an HP computer (laptop/desktop/workstation) which did not break. If I had to buy a pre-build, then I rather 'waist' my money on a Dell. In all fairness, I never had a poor experience with any of HP's printing solusion (from a "cheap-n-crappy" inkjet to some large format plotters).

Those 2 points don't really make sense either thorn. If the market is booming, why ditch it? Unless they realized that they are in tough competition with other tablet OS's

Saw this rumour today. Have to see how it plays out.

For the most part it sucks to see a player leave the market. Rather have more competition. In some way it might be OK for independent builders perhaps but somehow I doubt it.
