It definitely opens doors for Google to get Google TV up there with Apple TV and stuff like that but competing with it own partners on mobile seems strange. I think there is something to come still on that front.

Which is why I think Google is going to leave the company as it is. At least for now. If they lose business with Samsung, LG, HTC, etc. and try to run Motorola by themselves (which they indeed probably have no idea how to do, yet) It could very well be a disaster.

I don't think they necessarily care about the hardware side. Buying 12,500 patents plus 7000 patents pending for $9.5 billion ($12.5B - $3.0B in cash that Moto has) is a steal. They will now have fundamental cellular patents dating back to the early 80's, and they will be able to use them as legal weapons against anyone threatening Android OS and the other Android manufacturers.

Damn. Google has also bought out SageTV (they did this back in June). Just visited the SageTV site to see if there were any updates for my setup. Store has been closed and it does not look good for support after the next year.
