I'm going to hedge by bets that Balsillie is out in two quarters, unless RIM has a sales improvement. Then they will be taken over by Microsoft.... thats just a guess.

question is, are the blackberry fanheads as willing as their apple fools...i mean counterpart?

if yes, then whatever they come out at almost any cost will be fine as long as it 1-looks and feels nice

and 2-the marketing doesnt fire the pilars :)

Here is my issue: companies like Apple, RIM, Samsung, etc. all price their phones at outrageous levels so the telecom companies can "entice" people with longer contracts.

Don't think for a second that an iPhone should cost any more than $200 when bought WITHOUT a contract.

Now, RIM may be screwed since it looks like Rogers, Bell and certain US carriers will price their most anticipated phones at a level ABOVE the iPhones and Galaxy IIs of this world.

The bill-of-materials assessment on a 16GB iPhone 4 was $187.51 when it launched, so obviously $200 wouldn't cut it when you tack on R&D, manufacturing, transportation, marketing, profit & etc

When the 16GB was released, it was priced at $699 sans contract....

That's what it costs you to reproduce, I read an article on that. When producing mass amounts of something cost goes way down. All the parts might cost you $187.51 but only costs Apple $130.

Not to mention because of the sheer volume of phones they sell their profit margin does not need to be all that high, certainly not $500

Futureshop has it listed as $169 on a contract. Will probably be cheaper with sales and the inevitable free gift card.

That has me hoping for a Telus release below $175. Makes me wonder what the heck Rogers was thinking...
