Default Intel to Discontinue Year Old Processors

Aggregator of all things tech-rumor Fudzilla is reporting that Intel is planning to discontinue a number of their processors that are only a year old.

The chips that are slated for the chopping block are the desktop Core i7 970, as well as the laptop chips Core i7 660UM ,Core i5 540UM, and Celeron U340.

I would like to think that the 970 would still be competitive with any AMD chip released in the next one to two years, though I suppose the problem is that no one is buying them. Perhaps Winter Retail Edge for $150 a pop?

Intel released the 980 to replace the 970. Just slightly higher clocked.

Perhaps, but I doubt it. The last two RE's were both 970s now (Last xmas, and this Junes). I suspect that this winters will be Ivy Bridge for Superstars, and Sandy Bridge 2600's for everyone.

Or atleast I'm hoping. It'd be sweet to score an Ivy cheap
