If it's not one spiraling piece, how the heck does a fan mounted at the top cool fins placed perpendicular to the flow of air?

It probably draws air through the fins and out the top.

The Sphere's fins were placed parallel to the airflow of a radial fan -- the Swirl, from the photos I can see, has one really short radial fan, which would suggest the airflow would be in the open centre of the tower, then out those few fins flanking the fan.

it isa centrifugal fan that is described as 7.5 cm LONG; not diameter (does not state diameter in the description). Air would be drawn in at the top and bottom of the fan and blown out through the sides.

That's just what I was refering to. If your 75mm long fan die, GOOD LUCK!!!
Saw this to many time with spinQ and other cooler that have a fan that dosen't exist.
