They've gotta hit the random article button on Wikipedia until they find something that sounds odd. That's the only thing I can think of.

hahaha Lp, I just tried the Wikipedia trick now-

Codename "California Lizardfish" does sound like an upcoming chip!

But in all seriousness - I think most of them are jsut suburbs or locations that some of the engineers may have lived or grew up in. Heck, for all I know they might just throw a dart at a map.

AMD appears to use place names for some things, while Nvidia uses scientists currently (Fermi and Kepler). I don't think there's any rhyme or reason to Intel's naming schemes.
