I haven't head anything about a gt 440. Is it a totally new chip, or is it a reworked gt 240?

Hmmm... Seems like a decent HTPC card.

I wonder why they're still using the 4XX series naming?

Says in the article that it's based on "Fermi Architecture", so I would imagine that its not a rehash.

I read that as well, but you would think other manufacurers would have cards available as well if it was a totally new chip (and would have heard something about it)...maybe there will be others soon.

yup, theres other manu's that are popping out with them...unless its a low profile?

i dont see the use of one, save for maybe playing bluray, but a cheaper much cheaper couple years old card can

do that too

Well if its new it may compete with the HD 5670. The 5670 hasn't had any direct competition since it was released.

Might be a card built solely for the OEM channels VS mainstream retail. Done to replace the aging GT240 series.

That would be my honest guess.

For everyone's info, I was too curious and found the answer on nvidia's site, so it should be accurate. It looks like this is in fact a brand new card and GPU. There is an OEM gt 440, but this is a retail gt 440. And just so everyone is confused they are completely different.

OEM GT 440

Retail GT 440

Thanks for the find, better to be 50% right than 100% wrong
