Default OCZ Ceasing Memory Operations to Focus on SSDs

As we reported in the summer of 2010, OCZ was scaling back its memory operations, specifically in the lower end segment. Today, despite the fact that they displayed many new models of DRAM during CES 2011, the company reports it will be creasing all future DRAM development to focus heavily on its successful SSD venture.

The company released their... [ Read full article ]

Yep, no surprise. DRAM profit margins are slim. SSDs have that shiny new tech markup

It's not like we don't have a shitload of other (Better) options. Hopefully they keep up their strength on the SSD side of things.

I'm in the midst of setting up an RMA for my current RAM and received this response today:

Quote:
Unfortunately, very recently we have stopped producing DDR2 memory. Due to this change in production our ability to replace DDR2 memory has been limited to sending a comparable DDR3 kit as a replacement. This is of course dependent on having a system that can use DDR3 memory, and if this option is not available we can look into alternatives for your replacement. We do realize this causes an inconvenience, and for that we do apologize.
Guess if I go with a DDR3 kit, I may be in for similar issues down the road if they are dropping out of the memory business altogether.

The RAM market is dilute, and with Vendors like G.Skill tearing through it (at least as I see) I can understand the buisness motives behind it.
Putting too many eggs into one basket might prove risky though.

Still, for all the friction OCZ and I have had over the years with RAM and PSU's , they make a damn nice SSD so at least what they are offering is good in my eyes.

With the amount of RMA OCZ has for there ram, I dont doubt this at all. Personally, 5 sets all dead, DOA or just bad.
Not to mention a whole wack of people with issues too.

Next is there PSU to go.

I have to deal once with OCZ cause of a dead mouse. They gladly offered a USB which is worth way more than what I've paid for the said mouse.. so I would not worry to RMA ram even if they don't produce RAM anymore.

Good riddance to OCZ's mostly defunct RAM.
