I'd assume Hotmail has a similar mail forwarding function.
You can also set Gmail up for off-line viewing which downloads the emails to that particular PC.

Heh... I'm always a bit leary of letting a third party app grab all of my mail.... the GMail function for POP mail was a disaster.... folks would enter in their POP mail account and then GMail would take it off the server without leaving a copy for the POP client.... If that wasn't bad enough (and they may have resolved this issue by now).... it was virtually impossible to get your POP account back from GMail once it had it's grubby little paws on it.

Trust me there will be a time when gmail will die. You should ALWAYS have a back-up of anything important. One on-site and one off-site.

You can just set it up as a POP and use thunderbird or outlook. Just set it to leave the messages on the server and there you go. You get a pst file of your email and it is still on the server.
