Maybe the 22 November was always a paper launch in the hopes that they could trick Nvidia into releasing the 580 before it was ready..... :)

You missed my point mikellini. This late in the game to be calling for a delay can only mean problems. Its not to "tweak" things. Its WAY to late for tweaking as at this point they should be WELL into mass production. They most likely ran into an unforeseen snag. Maybe the yields arent where they "should" be. Maybe a bug was discovered late in the beta testing game and they are rushing to get a bios level patch in place (think AMD and Phenom 1) to counteract it. Maybe the new architecture doesnt scale they way they had hoped it would and its a furnace of a chip thats need a more robust cooling solution than initially spec'ed (though its almost too late to be swapping out heatsinks!). Who knows, but its not because they want to make it "better" its most likely because they want to make it "work". While there will always be fanbois, I find it funny how some can participate in such "doublethink", as they didnt (and rightly so) cut NV any slack but will bend over backwards to try and spin this ATI issue into a good thing. When NV did it was bad, when ATI does...its also a bad thing.
Perhaps the ATI Informatics Engineers were "floored" with the release of the 580's and they're capabilities........caught em with their pants down......who knows......sounds like they're going through the Fermi pains that nv did a year ago!

Maybe, we wont know before the lunch. I lie this years in GPUit's full of great battle between 2 good contender.
Something just catch up my mind. Maybe they are just holding it like intel does with 1156 because the stock of58XXX card is still to high?

But well the final point I think here is this : Nvidia last year decide to hold the 512 shader to the 480 to be able to ship a working GPU to customer. Now ATI hold up GPU for some reason we don't know. What does that change? they are both thinking about getting a big powerfull and WORKING GPU and to do so they can have to hold the lunch. Now just wait ATI to get it ready and see if we have a second 580 ( that mean high improvement ) here.

i was expecting to see some 1600 and spare shader parts, and that shouldn't be too hard, well easier than the rumored 1920 shader parts.

if its not a supply issue, be it chippies or what not, and i have a small doubt about bugs, then its got to be clock speed vs vgpu vs power consumption vs fan speeds. they probably,i think, decided to change something at the last minute, and even 50 mhz drop/raise can take a while to implement...pencil pushers :p

why is it important? because if the 6 series had a stock clock of say, 600 mhz vs 700 something? they wouldn't be so attractive out the box for the majority that wont oc them.

if they can clock the big boys to a decent 700-750 and the single gpu at maybe 800-850 it should look allright.

This. And since the 580 is not that much better then the 480 clock-for-clock, they can easily sell all the 58/59xx still on the shelves with rebates.

Why rush? I think AMD were underwhelmed by the 580, and have seen the opportunities for their partners to sell more 58/59xx with rebates. Also, 2 X 6870 are on par with the 580.

its hard to sell a 350 or so dollar 5870 when the 6870 retails for around 100 less. more or less.

people beoch about cf scalability issues and such. sure the minimum fps can drop to a bit lower than a single 580 in a given game/level etc but on average its quite decent.

Default 6870 vs 5870

You can't compare these card because 6870 is nextgen 5770.

Just throwin my two cents in

don't forget that fermi was originally scheduled for release a week or two later than the 58xx cards, then it was delayed by a month... and then another and then another.....
