They are going to completely cannibalize the 480 sales.

Bingo my friend! This is pretty wierd from Nvidia. It's kind of looking that they don't know what to do anymore so they drop what they can taking the risk of killing another product and losing money at the end of the run only to gain market?
Taking it step by step, if they would have a replacement for the 480 they would price drop it to clear the stock and make better sale with the new one. But now, they cut profit on their 2 best selling card. I'm seriously curious to know what is actually happening. This will be an interesting week for us

Yeah I know that, but will the 480 price drop or they will do like intel and hold the new one as long as old stock are still big enough?

Yeah I saw that NCIX sale and when I heard about this, I was like how are these on sale if this is a price drop world wide?

And who was complaining that there isn't enough competition in the GPU market?

I thought the GTX 460 were supposed to be priced at $200 since launch. Or am I thinking about the 768MB version?

Looks like newegg has started to drop its prices. 1GB 460 is into the $170 - $180 range after MIR.

Feels good watching those prices go down. Hell, I might even get one of those GTX 460s; just as a PhysX card.
