Default NVIDIA Reveals Fermi's Successor

At the NVIDIA hosted GTC (GPU Technology Conference) 2010 event, NVIDIA didn't have a fake GTX 480 to display this time, however they did reveal their intended roadmap for graphics cards. According to the companies plans, Fermi's successor will be Kepler and will be based on the 28nm manufacturing process. While estimates of performance are obvio... [ Read full article ]

Ati took the lead with the 5000 series. Is it Nvidia's turn now? I hope they put up a good fight, and by that I mean offer really good cards for really cheap.

Ok so, they want to play again with TSMC and their new tech? so in 2011 if the card are released, will there be stock?? It's good to see far sometime but maybe this time Nvidia is going to far??

Well this will be an interesting wait. smaller fab process, hopefully in time for ATi's 28nm GPUs too.

I think NVIDIA just made the same mistake they did with Fermi. They showed release dates for architectures which are very much dependent on manufacturing process maturity. One slip up by TSMC and NVIDIA's stock will be in a world of hurt.

Charlie seems to believe they will be using Global Foundries

SemiAccurate :: Nvidia signs up with Global Foundries

Which, honestly isn't that unreal of a possibility. AMD Only controls a what, 35% stake in the company, so they effectively would be unable to make any decisions about who GF does business with. Though, the directors are mostly all ex-AMD employees.

As SA points out, NV CEO was incredibility adamant about sticking with TSMC, but if they want to remain competitive and get 28nm out before ATI, they may just be forced to bite their tongue.

Well, even if they only increase performance a little but half the wattage used by the new process, then there's your double performance/wattage.

One of things that publicly owned companies do, in order to appease the shareholders, is to LIE. I'll believe it when I see it on the shelf or in my rig. Also, I lold @ Fermi roadmap as 2009; we all know how that ended up.
