for many people, going in the actual store and picking up the actual item makes the difference. one reason ncix busted their brains about opening up stores outside their turf :)
Yup.

Here in Qc, depending of where you live, it's not like you got NCIX-like shops all over the place. I went to Microbyte once to TRY to find double-sided tape...the dude looked at me puzzled...they have decent stuff or they can order whatever you want but the MARKUP is gonna be brutal...It's actually funny when I get into a store and compare advertised prices with online prices...makes me chuckles everytime...

For some people that don't have a CC, don't want to wait, don't trust buying stuff online, don't speak the language (big stopper here) what do they do?

I seen some GTX260s at FS a few months back, and they sell some GTS250 at Staples...not powerful cards by today's standards, but at least it's not like some FX5200 offerings. There is a need for decent PSUs are brick-and-mortar shops...but they sell a $89 PSU for $150...lol

I always buy online from NCIX (Pricematching everything), so for me it's a non issue...

FS/BB will surprise you sometimes; I bought a couple of Evga 9800GTX cards there for $200, when Canada Computers had them for a few dollars more. I price-matched a set of Logitech speakers there too.

You can often find good deals on peripherals and accessories at Future Shop and Best Buy, but when it comes to actual hardware, you can usually just forget about it.

Totally true. But for computer screen you have to carefully look at the model. Sometime it's unique ( exclusive ) model like 2242TQ would be 2242TS only to prevent pricematch. Also, sometime these special model have 1 years warranty insteadof 3 or some lower spec.

all of the above combined make it a good profit for big box stores.

now,yes forums are full of ppl who order online, price match, bitch about mail in rebates(me) but out of the whole computer business population, what is the percentage? i say maybe 10 percent. maybe. yes, anyone and their granny have internet, but how many people actually care about getting stuff online etc? they may read a review here or elsewhere, then run to bb to get a 50-100 dollar more expensive gtx480 or whatever they want right then that instant. overnight shipping, or even 2-3 business day shipping doesnt work for those people :)

i know because i deal with some lol.

Default Buyer beware

Plenty of recent ads popped up when I did a search for BFG Tech warranty. As in 2DAY old ad on Tiger Direct gushing about "BRG's famous lifetime warranty". At what date does an out of date ad become fraud?

Currently staring at a BFG with an attractive blue L.E.D. lit fan whirring, with a silver colored faceplate, cooling a solid copper heatsink but with nothing to cool, since no video signal!
