Default NVIDIA Signs Patent License with Rambus

The lawsuit between the companies will continue despite licensing agreement. A ruling in favour of Rambus by the US International Trade Comission (ITC) last month, saw NVIDIA products - including almost every major graphics card - banned from sale and import into the United States, as such the company has been forced to do what it must to continue ... Don't feed the trolls now Rambus has more money to sue everyone else. Although a 1% royalty on memory controllers can't work out to much.

So, considering that Fermi's memory controller is weak, does this mean that Nvidia will be getting a better controller from Rambus? Or is their current controller from Rambus, and as soon as they source a better one, they won't be giving Rambus anything anyway?

BTW, love your mouse-over caption for the picture, Fixt

The problem is that Rambus doesn't produce a memory controller. If you do some digging on them, 96% of their income is from licensing. They patent stuff, then sue others that seem to infringe on the patents. Occasionally, they strike it rich.

Those patents are also partially stolen ideas from open-standard conferences :/
