Default Leaked GTX 480 512-Core Benchmarks Show Improvement

Ever since consumers realized that the GTX 480 with 480 CUDA Cores was actually a neutered version of a potentially much more powerful card with 512 cores, they have been clamouring to get their hands on such a beast. Just recently, evidence was shown by EXPreview.com that such a card may actually exist and today benchmarks have been released of wh... [ Read full article ]

I wonder if this thing will run cooler and quieter as that hopefully was factored into the design of the 512sp version rather then just cranking more through and hoping for the best

Smile Press Release

Perhaps there'll be a bunch of 480s going up for sale in the BST when it finally releases. I wonder how much longer it'll take to cook my eggs?

I wonder if the current 480 cores.... have 32 locked cores that can be hacked/unlocked?

" modest 5.8% improvement."

ok. i dig that. did they remove anything to make it more efficient like the gf104 parts? :)

and if everything is the same? perhaps. but 32 more unlocked buggers might bring heat up just enough for you to see problems on stock/auto settings..perhaps

Speculation surrounding how NVIDIA will release the card is still varied, with most expecting that it may be simply slipped into the existing GTX 480 market without any differentiation at the manufacturer level, much like the GTX 260 (216SP).
The idea that they're not going to do something like call it a GTX485... can't help but wonder if Nvidia is deliberately holding that designation for something else.

Still, I've been waiting to see this for quite some time. It may only be 6% boost, but it's 6% in an area where gains are hard-fought for, especially if you want nothing to do with multi-GPU. Assuming the overclockability isn't shot to hell, one of these cards may just find its way into my rig.

Based on this info, I wonder when the 384 core GF104 will come out?
