Default Intel Presents 20 Threaded Westmere-EX Processor

Intel is forging ahead at an astonishing rate when it comes to the development of its next generation processors and the upcoming Westmere-EX server focussed chips may have more threads than previously expected. Intel intends to present a paper at the Hot Chips 22 conference, held at Stanford University between August 22 and 24, titled "Westmere-EX... [ Read full article ]

So is the AMD's 12 core CPU powerful on games or is it just work?

None of these are consumer level products.

However I believe it was Anandtech who did a review on Opteron 6174 vs. a Xeon 6 core (12 threads) and found the Opteron CPU's roughly fared better in many tasks, though Intel's faster core speeds also helped it out perform in some cases as well. But, as with most AMD stuff, their chip was substantially more cost effective.

Lol. It's a Magny Cours processor, not mangy cores.

It's Mangy cores, hairless spotted cores that may or may not work. Part of the whole organic processor technology.

I like organic
Seriously though, twnety more processors? That seems like quite the number to come at once. Wait, are all of them coming at the same time? Thats a lot of organic-ness.

EDIT: I read it as "20 [more]...." not [one] 20 threaded processor... Imdumb.

It was actually bit-tech, and they found that the Intel chips did edge out the Opterons in most of the tests: Review - AMD Opteron 6174 vs Intel Xeon X5650 Review | bit-tech.net
