We now know at least one processor will be a Quad Core with hyper-threading (8 threads) clocked at 2.5GHz. The chip has 256MB of L2 Cache per core
Awesome!!!!

Woot! 1GB of L2 cache total! OVERKILL. I'll shut up now.

But, I'm still confused as to the whole point of the 1156-1155 transition.

What's there to be confused about?

The 1156 to 1155 transition is simply a money grab by Intel.

Yeah more sockets = more money for Intel. MB manus use Intel chips so they sell chips to them plus people upgrade their CPUs

I think I may just jump on the AMD side this round as I'm sick of this whole socket change all the time. AM3 should be here for a while shouldn't it?

AM3 has some life left in it, but I wouldn't expect too much in the way of new procs from here on in... The next round of procs will not be backwards compatable.

AMD does the same thing, they are just slow slugs compared to Intel. How long did it take to adopt DDR3? lol
