Default Intel 48 core CPU this year

Looks like this would be pretty fun:
FAH-Addict : News - Intel distributes 48-core processor to its partners

48 core Intel chips, only for academic use.

hmm...so its a server socket chip..ok, a server mobo is what 200-300 bucks? 125w tdp, i can live with that..a bit low on the gigahz, but the sheer number of cores makes up for it...48*1.6=76.8ghz..oc might not be possible, well much anyway...due to heat/voltage jumps with that number of cores.

ps follow the link from the comments...now i get it why tsmc has issues puting numbers out for amd/nv....everyone else is getting 40nm parts

You can't buy these. Intel is only distributing them to a select few groups.

Here is another link to an article about it, except this one has pictures and even shows the test board.

from the video looksl iek they modified a linux distro to run on their board..very very interesting...i bet in 5+ or maybe a bit more years time we should be able to afford something like that

i mean, how much can it cost down the road to produce those? same as today +- for high end chips
