Non-reference designs!! Meta likes. This will give everyone brand a chance to really show their stuff, although hopefuly not rehashes of previously used designs. I'd expect to see a generic MSI "Twin Frozr", but other than that i hope we'll see some real innovation

Isn't the GTX 470 supposed to compete at the 5850 price level? If this is launched at 5850 pricing and is expected to compete with it on equal footing, that could make the GTX 470 obsolete. I'd expect to see this more around the 5830 level.

To me, "no reference design" is worrying. Trust me guys, for quality control, thermal characteristics and component choices you will WANT there to be a reference design.

Really? I would hate to think that Intel would put their chipsets on a mobo and force vendors to use it. I like the variety in the mobo market, and would hope that the video card market would benefit in the same manner.

I do see some early issues though as makers learn the ropes....but in the long-term, would this not be good?

Thats what reviews are for Let the various reviewers weed out the crap designs and show us the golden ones that perform well

I pray to god there is SOME sort of reference designs.... otherwise no way you;d be able to get a FC waterblock.

And priced AT 5850 levels or priced to COMPETE with 5850? Maybe $279 MSRP for this?

Interesting how they're taking the same posture as ATI did with the 5830, and letting manufacturers do their own thing. Here's hoping that it doesn't mimic the 5830's drawbacks, like the large size, and inconsistent performance.
