The VelociRaptor Lives On

For many users in the market it seemed as though the high performance HDD was finally at the end of its life. With the advent of SSD's the lowly HDD became dedicated to merely a storage drive. Western Digital however has made good the rumor we heard a few months back in regards to their VelociRaptor Lineup. We will be seeing a new generation of th... [ Read full article ]

Of course they won't be ;). I'm sure they'll be damn fast drives though.

I'll take a 600GB Raptor over a 30GB SSD anyday. Less maintaince too.

Until we hit Thermal Transfer Mechanical Drives these will be the fastest Consumer HDD's and I'm all for them hitting the shelves soon. Espically with 32MB Cache (Although when rumors first surfaced it was stated they would have 64MB) and all the varities they come in.

What 10% faster than a WD Black? Not worth it IMO. Anything over $100 better have at least 1Tb of storage or be an SSD.

Oh, it's definitely not worth it. Access times should still be considerably faster than a Black though.

If WD stays to their regular pricing scheme, then it'll probably go for $250-300 dollars. I'd get 3 $100 SSDs and Raid 0 them for that much any day.

For Pure Speed Yes I agree. But What Kind of Storage would you get CM? And in RAid 0 thats what? 30-64GB? Not worth it for me.

If the 600GB say goes for 200. Thats a lot of storage for very solid performance in my books.

Thats equivalent to two WD Black in Raid 0 then? lol... the blacks in raid 0 would still be faster. Anyways... I suppose its a good idea if you're afraid of Raid or only have room for one full-size HDD.
